Toronto!

by Allyson on November 4, 2011

Well heeeeelllooooooooo Toronto, Canada!

From The Coffee House has left it’s little nook of Ohio and ventured up for WordCamp Toronto.  Our designer, Joe Rozsa of Trailer Trash Design will be speaking at WordCamp Toronto tomorrow morning, and we decided to come up and root him on!

So hello again, Toronto.  Be kind to us county folk.  (:

((And hey, if we feel like protesting, Occupy Toronto isn’t far from the hotel!))

Vacation Frappuccinos

by Allyson on August 14, 2011

Oh honey, the best thing to have on a hot summer day is an ice cold frappuccino.  I have one of those fancy Mr. Coffee Frappe machines, and let me tell you, it’s the best gift I’ve ever gotten for my obsession with food.  I decided to take my frappe machine up to Lake Weslemkoon this year, and it was the best idea ever.  Armed with green tea, espresso, and a small army of syrups, we made the trek north.  I used fresh fruit in some of my frappuccinos this time, and they turned out SO GOOD.  I made a green tea cherry frappuccino, a chocolate cherry frappuccino, and others.  Yum yum yum!

Blake’s Café and Cupcakery

by Allyson on June 9, 2011

As I said before, my mom and I made the trek through Green and Akron, Ohio to visit some coffee shops.  The first place on our list to visit was Blake’s Café and Cupcakery. They have, of course, cupcakes, different sandwiches and meals to make, and of course, coffee.  They have all sorts of flavorings and all of that good stuff.  We even saw the Mayor of the City of Green there!  I voted for him!  If I wasn’t so shy, I probably would have gotten a picture with him so you can all see our Mayor, Dick Norton.  He’s a cool guy.

You can’t go up to a cupcake shop without ordering a cupcake.  So I ordered a Buckeye cupcake (a chocolate cake with a peanut butter center with chocolate frosting.  SO GOOD), and a Cinnamon Mocha latte.  Delicious.

My mom ordered an orange creme cupcake and a white chocolate mocha latte (she didn’t see all of the different flavors they had, lol!)

First, a Personal Post

by Allyson on June 9, 2011

Okay, so there’s been a lot going on at FTCH.  I graduated college with my bachelors in English, I’m working (almost) full time at my retail job, and I’ve broken up with my boyfriend.  That’s right, the one that pestered me forever to get the pictures of the sky on my blog.  Ha.  They’re nice pictures, so I can’t blame him for wanting me to put them on.  I kept telling him he should be a contributor, but he never wanted to.  That’s okay, though, because things would be really awkward now.  It’s been three months since we’ve been apart, and let me tell you, it’s hard.  I keep finding things that remind me of him and I just get really depressed and can’t think about anything else.  I’ve been going on dates and all of that nonsense, but I think I just need to chill out for a little bit and do some things for myself.

I’ve been trying to bake more (I made awesome key lime cupcakes), and I’ve been trying to get my writing back on track.  I have the most unbelievable writer’s block, though, and it’s getting a little ridiculous.  Also I picked up a second job to watch my neighbor’s kids in the morning for a few hours at least three times a week, so, that’s also been getting in the way.

One day my dad says, “So I’m speaking at WordCamp, and I would like you to update your blog so I can use it in my presentation.”  Yep!  The brains behind Trailer Trash Design is going to be speaking at WordCamp in Columbus, Ohio!  How cool is that?!  ((Want to check him out?  Follow TTD on Twitter @TRAILERTRASHUS, or check out his site, http://www.trailertrashdesign.us/.  TTD is also the brains behind our WordPress Thesis theme here at FTCH.  I’m just the writer.  Ha!  There’s currently some work going on at the Trailer Park, but don’t worry!  It’ll be up soon, and it’s looking great!))

So, my fellow FTCH’ers, we will be going in front of all of those cool WordPress people with our blog!  Awesome!

My mom and I went around the Green/Akron, Ohio area to a few coffee shops to get a new update here on the blog, since it’s been a while.  And baby, there’s more to come!

If you live in the area and know of any cool coffee shops to visit, let us know!  I’m currently trying to get my lazy butt down to Muggswigz.  They have an awesome lavender latte.  It’s gorgeous to look at and delicious to drink.  When the heat goes away, it’s the perfect thing to warm your cold bones.

See you on the other side of the cup!

What?! An Update?!

by Allyson on May 24, 2011

So after a long, long hiatus, I’m back. I’ve graduated college with my degree in English, and I’ll be starting off an update from Blake’s Cupcakery and coffee shop. See you soon! My cinnamon mocha looks delicious!!!

FTCH’s First Snail Mail!

by Allyson on January 5, 2011

Today, I got the best thing in the mail. While it is only junk mail (a magazine for gift bags and stuff like that), it was addressed to me: OWNER or CURRENT RESIDENT for FROM THE COFFEE HOUSE.

YES. Score.

Scribbles, Part Two

by Allyson on January 5, 2011

So, as promised the other night, I have pictures from my adventures to Scribbles Coffee Co. in Kent, Ohio.  It’s a small little coffee shop with a cute little sitting room back in the back with a wall full of books.  Now, that’s my kind of place.  Coffee and books is all someone needs.

Scribbles Coffee Co. in Kent, Ohio

by Allyson on January 4, 2011

Whaaaaaaat?  Two posts in two days?  Something must be wrong with me!  Either that or it’s the insane amount of caffeine I’ve just ingested from the White Chocolate Cherry Mocha I just got from Scribbles Coffee Co. in Kent, Ohio.

Pictures are soon to come, as they are currently on my iPhone, and I’m over at my boyfriend’s apartment on his computer.  I just thought I’d send you guys a little love.  (:   (Aren’t I sweet?)

So, I tested out some video blogging last night, and I think it’s going to be a pretty successful thing.  The first video is for sure going to be a call for contributors, as that’s something we’re always looking for here at The Coffee House.  Then I’ll probably hit up some local coffee joints and see what’s happening in the community.

My next investment will be my very own Flip camera to take on all of my adventures.  My dad has one, but I feel bad taking it and using it all of the time.  Haha.  Love you dad!

Alright, Coffee Lovers.  Check out Scribbles Coffee Co. on North Water Street in Kent, Ohio.  It’s a small joint, but they make some pretty tasty coffee!

Things to Come in the New Year

by Allyson on January 3, 2011

Well, as you all have noticed, there’s been a bit of a lag with updates.  It’s not that I don’t love you guys, it’s that things have been a little hectic around the house.  School ended and will be starting back up again in a matter of no time, people in the family have gone to the hospital, and, of course, there’s working in retail.  But with the New Year comes new things.  I’m experiementing, almost as we speak, with video blogging.

My wonderful boyfriend Brandon bought me one of my favorite Christmas presents this year:  A Mr. Coffee Cafe Frappe machine.  I’m pretty sure I’ve made almost twenty frappes (I still prefer to call them frappuchinos, haha).  I’m so excited for the summer to come because we have blueberry bushes in the backyard, and when Starbucks had the blueberry syrup, one of my dad’s favorite things to get was a blueberry green tea frappuchino.  Guess what he’s going to get with fresh from the bush blueberries?  :)

I have quite the arsenal of syrups in my pantry.  With how much room it takes up, I’m pretty sure mom and dad aren’t too happy about that.  I have bought my syrups from many places, one from Starbucks (cinnimon dolche), World Market, and other grocery stores around my area.  It’s surprising just how many different flavors there are.  I recently purchased apple syrup and a black current syrup.

A Chai Tea with Apple frappe is pretty tasty, if I do say so myself.

So, coming soon, you will see some pictures of some of the frappuchinos I’ve made at home, and perhaps I’ll give you a sneak peak into the pantry so you can see how much stuff I have.  :)

See you soon, Coffee Lovers!  Don’t forget to check back for frappe blogs and video blogs!

Holiday Drinks Are Back In Season!

by Allyson on November 17, 2010

I had a delicious Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate today, and it will not be my last for this holiday season.  My dad had his first taste of the Pumpkin Pie Latte (Chai White mocha, and pumpkin syrup), and I must say, with how fast he drank it, I think it might be a new seasonal favorite for him to indulge in.

I have some questions for you, Coffee Lovers!

1)  What are your favorite holiday drinks?

2)  If you could make any holiday drink, what would it be?  (Holidays can include anything you want:  Valentines day, St. Patrick’s Day, Leap Day, whatever!)

3)  If there is a seasonal drink that you could get all year ’round from your favorite coffee house?

Also, Friends!  FTCH is always looking for contributors.  If you love coffee, cappuchinos, frappuchinos, lattes, or if you work at a coffee shop, drop us a line!  Tell us about interesting people you have met, show us pictures of your latte art, or just talk to us about drinks you’ve created either at work or at home!

<3

Get your coffee ready, guys.  Black Friday is coming soon!
